West Wall

Description

Thomas Staub

Width: 2.85 m, max preserved height: 2.95 m. A basin (2 x 1 m, height 0.5 m) is placed in front of the northern part of the wall. The southernmost part (0.55 m wide) forms a pilaster in brickwork (up to 2.3 m height, there above in opus incertum), protruding for 0.1 m from the remaining wall. This is made of a mixed opus incertum, containing mainly sarno stone and lava. Some smaller aresa are still covered by plaster. In 2.3 m height a vertical recess is visible along the wall, maybe an offprint of the floor of the upper storey (or as a line marking modern repairs in the uppermost part).
