Door (closed)

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

An orthostat in the southern wall has plaster on its eastern surface, indicating the western doorframe of a former door opening between V 1,13, room a and V 1,14i. The eastern doorframe is not visible in V 1,13, room a, but it is indeed discernible in V 1,14i. The width of the door is 0.97m, and the plaster along the orthostat is visible all along the stone, to a height of 1.7 m.

The door was closed in antiquity. The exact date is not possible to determine, but the plaster analysis and the interpretation of the development of V 1,13 and V 1,14-16 suggest that it was done early in the history of this area of insula V 1.
