Floor

Description

Henrik Boman

The cocciopesto floor is preserved in the south and north areas in the room. The floor looks as if it is missing its coating surface, c. 5-7 cm deep (without to top surface).

The cocciopesto floor abuts directly to the walls, there are no plaster preserved by floor level or below floor level.

The floor has sunken in the center area, presumably completely destroyed. It could be a collapsed cistern or cellar.

The area of the floor that has collapsed is still covered by volcanic ash and debris mixed with material from the room and (the supposed) upper floor. The debris was covered by only a layer of small lava gravel and vegetation. The material was left in situ in 2011.

Further investigations are necessary.
