East Wall

Description

Thomas Staub

E wall: width 2.82 m, max. preserved height 3.60 m (above cocciopesto floor level). The entire wall consists of a mixed opus incertum, containing mainly Sarno stone but also cruma, yellow tuff and reused pieces of plaster, bricks and stones with reddish mortar, all set into a yellowish mortar. In the central part of the wall, a 0.95 x 1.55 m large area is covered by modern concrete. At 2.10 - 2.30 m height, a slight groove runs horizontally from one corner to the other. This wall is probably bonded with the south wall. In the central part, some small rests of plaster are preserved at floor level, up to max. of 0.15 m height.
