North Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

The north wall in room g was almost completely destroyed in the 1943 bombings. To the west, in room d and to the east, in room h, the wall is still standing. In room g only some stones at floor level can be identified as parts of the original wall. The wall has moved northwards because of the blast, thereby partly destroying the floor in V 1,13, room d. One large orthostat, still standing, is crumbling and falling to pieces, presumably due to the effects of the heat in the blast.

Large quantities of plaster fragments were found in stratified layers in front of the wall; these are mostly pieces of white ground plaster with traces of modern mending. The area was used for dumping after the 1940s and the plaster probably originates from other rooms than room g.

The wall was restored in 2008.
