East Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

The E wall of room e wall is, as is the S wall, heavily destroyed, and earth upon and in between the stones were left for the stability of the wall. It is built in limestone opus incertum with some tiles and a few cruma. The wall has an inwards projecting anta structure, c. 0.70m wide and its door opening is c. 1m wide. Nothing can be said about the height of the door since no door jambs are preserved. The floor does not extend all the way to the wall; it connects with plaster (II), but not the underlying plaster (I). The gap between the 1st layer and the floor, more than 6 cm at some locations, indicates that the floor never connected to plaster I. The plaster (I) on the N wall extends behind the E wall. This could indicate a construction sequence or, more likely, a rebuilding phase or repair.
