North Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monica Nilsson

The north wall of room b is well preserved in height, but bulges into the room and, consequently, many stones have fallen out. Up to a height of c. 2 m are the remains preserved of two opus africanum chains with small, cut limestone blocks in between. Above the cut blocks the wall is built in mixed opus incertum. There are no beam holes or other indications of an upper floor.

A filled-in niche can be discerned along the floor, ca 2.5 m long and asymmetrical in shape, with rounded ends. It is 0.50 high and rests on a socle of ca 0.30 in height.
