North Wall

Description

Renée Forsell

The wall is built in op. incertum consisting of mainly limestone, and some lava, cruma and tufa stones. The lava, cruma and tufa stones are mainly part of a repair of a hole in the middle W part of the wall. The hole may have been made by treasure hunters. The upper part of the wall is reconstructed. There is also a lot of modern mortar on the wall and the original mortar is only visible in a few places. (There are no beam holes corresponding to the ones in the S wall du to the wall not being preserved high enough and modern reconstruction).
Most of the wall plaster in the dado is preserved. It is damaged along the floor and where the hole was made through the wall. The plaster has a pinkish hue. There are also remains of plaster all the way up to the top of the wall in the E part of the main zone and a smaller part in the W corner above the dado. This plaster is weathered and dirty with many cracks. It is surrounded by modern support mortar.
