South Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

The foundations of the south wall in room g are preserved all along the south side of the room although little remains of the actual wall. The western part, up to 1.75 m from the W wall, still has some stones, mostly lava and a few limestones, in situ. The wall is preserved to c. 0.3m in height and it is 0.3m wide. This stretch of preserved wall shows that the location of the door is to be found to the east, presumably by the east end of the wall. The foundation gives no indication to the exact location of the door.

Plaster type C was found as the first plaster layer on the wall, with a second layer of red-painted type F.

In 2008 the wall was restored to a height of c. 0.7m with a door opening placed in the centre.
