Lararium

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

The lararium is a small, arched double niche with only fragments of plaster preserved. An iron nail in the centre is the only remaining trace of its sculptural decoration. The statuette was missing when Mau described the building (Mau 1877, 137).

Plaster: There are fragments of white plaster inside the niche, but the decoration with red plaster on white ground along the outer edge is no longer present. The white plaster continues below the niche.
