Floor

Description

Thomas Staub

The floor in this room is the same as in atrium4, reaching through the wide opening between these two rooms. White tesserae, inserted into the surface, mark the border between the rooms. They seem to be placed in five parallel rows, standing on their corners, between 0.012 and 0.02 m² large with a distance of 0.02 - 0.03 m between each other. The rows are from south to north placed as follows: the first one in line with the south corner of the pilasters, the following after 0.07 m, then after 0.12 m, then after 0.10 m, then after 0.11 m. and the final one after a further 0.07 m. Whether some of the spaces in between them were decorated with some geometrical patterns cannot be determined because of the scant state of preservation.
The floor reaches underneath the plaster preserved on the walls.
