Floor

Description

Inner part
There was no floor in the inner part of room c as the area between the two parts of the feature was the opening of a cesspit that was filled with lapilli. In the E a sloping surface of compact soil was found. It was located 0.05-0.20m below the floor level of the outer part of the room and was sloping heavily towards the E. This seems to have been the foundation of a threshold between the inner and outer parts of the room. The cesspit below has made the threshold collapse.

Outer part
In the S part there were no actual remains of a floor, just hard packed soil mixed with lime. The floor in the N part was made of stones in the E, one limestone and three lava boulders with flat upper surfaces. There was mortar, tempered with small pieces of lava along the E wall as well as the E part of the N wall. Embedded in the mortar were small stones and some pieces of terracotta. The limestone boulder was to some extent covered in mortar. Four large pieces of roof tiles constituted the W part of the floor. The tiles were all cracked.
