Room a

Description

Thomas Staub

This room is situated between corridor 10 and the eastern boundary wall of the house. It is entered through the doorway from the corridor and allows the passage into the rear part of room 12, which probably served as a storage area underneath the staircase to the upper floor over this part of the house, situated at the front of the room. Thus it could be argued for, that room a served as service room as did the adjacent room 11. As shown by the earlier decorations, which are preserved on the east wall behind the south wall, the room or parts of it were originally part of a larger room together with room 11. Remains of the lowest layers of a later pulled down wall in the door opening towards room 12 could indicate, that this wall was the original north wall of this earlier room, later replaced by the wall standing there now, constructed in a later masonry.

This part of the house was probably excavated sometimes between 1876 and 1878, not documented.

Dimensions: 3.40 x 2.70 m = 9.18 m2.
