Threshold

Description

Thomas Staub

The threshold in the opening towards room h consists of one lava-block over the entire width (1.14 m) of the opening, 0.22 m (western side) - 0.30 m (eastern side) deep. At the corners towards room h, rectangular recesses (0.08 x 0.04 m) are cut into the block, the eastern one slightly destroyed. A bit further into the opening (0.07 m from edge towards room h, 0.09 m from frames), two round shallow recesses are found, both with faint iron remains, probably for the pivot. No holes for bolts or other closing arrangements are present.
Of the threshold towards room k, remains of bedding in concrete for a probable wooden threshold are preserved, 0.24 m wide, 1.08 m long (protruding underneath the northern doorframe for 0.15 m), rising slightly towards room k.
