North Wall

Description

Thomas Staub

N wall: width 3.15 m, max. preserved height 4 m. Even here, the lower part of the wall is hidden behind a kitchen bench and behind the praefurnium for the adjacent caldarium 20. The wall is once more made of the same kind of mixed opus incertum as the walls before, but thickly covered by modern concrete, so that the yellowish mortar is visible only in the upper eastern part of the wall. The middle of the wall is taken up by the niche over the heating zone for the bath, see below, features. This wall seems to abut against the west wall, at least in the upper zone; the lower part of the corner is covered by modern concrete.
