Niche 2

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

Niche in north wall:
An almost square niche is found at a level of 1.6m above the floor. The niche is partly cut in a large block in the opus quadratum wall, with two large stones (tufa and lava) as lintel. White plaster is still preserved in the lower E corner, the rear wall and the E side. In the centre of the niche are traces of metal visible, circa 3 cm from the edge. On the wall outside the niche, by the lower E corner, are three nails, presumably for the restoration of now lost plaster.

Measurements:

Depth: 0.14m

Height: 0.59m

Width: low: 0.53m (plaster destroyed)

high: 0.51m (plaster preserved)
