East Wall

Description

A. Karivieri & R. Forsell

The N part of the E wall constitutes the anta of tablinum i. The original wall is built in op. quadratum consisting of large limestone blocks. Marble slabs are horizontally placed along the floor in the S part continuing around the corner along the N wall of tablinum  i.

The S part of the wall constitutes the anta of tablinum  i and the frame of the niche in the E wall of anta h. The original wall is built in op. quadratum consisting of large limestone blocks. In the centre of the wall there are stretches of filling in op. incertum with smaller rounded pieces of cruma and limestone.
Marble slabs are placed horizontally along the floor in the N part continuing around the corner along the N wall of tablinum i.

Wall plaster:
In the N part wall plaster is preserved in the centre of the wall in a 0.22m wide stretch, at the height of 1.80 - 2.83m. The colour of the plaster is red. An incised circle is visible at the height of 2.42m. Wall plaster is missing along the edges of the wall showing the position of doorframes.

In the S part a 0.32m wide stretch of weak red wall plaster is preserved in the centre of the wall at the height of 1.82 - 2.21m. No details are visible. Plaster coating covers many of the stones. Its extension shows that there was no plaster along the edges of the wall probably due to the existence of doorframes.

State of preservation:
The upper part of the wall is missing. The wall is reconstructed above the lintels in op. incertum. New lintels were put in during the restoration in 2008/9.
