East Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monica Nilsson

The lower part of the east wall of room b is built with mainly lava stones while the upper part contains mostly small limestones in opus incertum. The doorway leads into room d, but the threshold is much higher than the floor. This opening has a stone slab functioning as threshold, but its authenticity has been questioned. The top of the slab is as much as 0.43 m above floor level, but corresponds to the floor level of the neighbouring room.

Lintel and doorframes are restored. The wall was recently restored in 2008, the upper part of the wall was consolidated with modern plaster/cement. No structural features were affected.
