Wall decoration (extant)

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

By the north wall in the viridarium is a low bench with remains of a painting with a garden motif. The upper part of this painting has been cut down and reduced to a bench during a late rearrangement of the viridarium. The lower line of a shallow niche in the eastern wall has the same height as the bench.

What remains of the painting is a net pattern, flanked with the lower parts of concentric squares in red, yellow, green, black and white.

On the interior of the south pluteus are remains of wall painting in geometric patterns. At the SE corner is a vertical red band, framed with a white line to the west, and another vertical red band can be discerned halfway on the pluteus and, also, at the SW corner. Near the SE corner it is possible to identify a horizontal yellow band along the floor, and fragments of yellow and white plaster recur along the preserved parts of the surface.
