Floor

Description

Thomas Staub

The floor of this corridor is made of lavapesta with inserted pieces of coloured limestone’s, very much reminding of the floors in atrium4, alae9 and 14 and the entrance of the house. However, the cement, into which the stones are pressed, differs in that it here contains much lava-split. The pavement reaches underneath the plaster; at the east wall it abuts against an earlier layer of plaster. It abuts against the thresholds towards atrium4 and peristyle b, but not against the thresholds of rooms 11 and a. At the east wall, the floor abuts against an earlier layer of plaster, apart from its southern part, where the wall narrows. Here the floor abuts directly against the wall.
