Room 7

Description

Henrik Boman

The room is entered from the area in front of the counter; and the room is connected to the direct access from the large doorway 32. There is an interval window to room 6 and an external widow in the W wall, both of same size and found at same height.

There are two features in the room. One narrow brick structure, extensively repaired in modern times, and a latrine by the W wall, discovered in 2011. The top structure of a cess pit found in connection with the latrine is located under the W wall (the façade of V 1).

As in room 6, no traces of the floor was found (center area of the room was not cleared in 2011). A large pool of tar and stains of tar on the walls indicates that the room has been used a workshop during restorations in the vicinity.

The orientation towards the area in front of the counter might give us a clue to the function of the room as a service area for visitors to the taberna, hence the location of the latrine.
