Description

A. Karivieri & R. Forsell

The wall is located between room f and V1, 28d.

The wall was built in op. incertum and consists mainly of lava and one piece of cruma. In the SE corner there are some Sarno limestone. The size of the lava stones in the wall is 10-15 cm. In a niche in the SW corner of the wall there are spolia: pieces of terracotta, and some pieces of wall plaster with black paint. The wall of the niche is broken in the lower part, with a hole towards house V 1,28d. The upper edge of the niche, where the plaster is preserved, is slightly vaulted. This plaster includes lots of crushed pottery. The upper part of the wall is reconstructed with limestone and cruma and a couple of pieces of yellow and grey tuff.

Wall plaster:
Plaster covers the lower part of the wall. No decoration is visible on the upper layer. At floor level, behind this layer a black coloured plaster is visible attached to the cocciopesto floor. Beside the black wall plaster a layer of white mortar is visible. In the centre of the wall at floor level, behind the plaster coating, there is a wall painting with white background, green horizontal band and a red vertical stripe visible.

State of preservation:
The upper part is missing and the uppermost part is reconstructed. There are some remains of wall plaster on the surface.
