East Wall

Description

Henrik Boman & Monika Nilsson

The east wall of room d abuts the N wall without binding stones and ends to the south with a square tile pier. In between is lava incertum, on top of which are a couple of courses of rather small stones of limestone. The latter presumably belong to a modern restoration. A large limestone block with a cutting on its upper side is placed at the southern end of the wall, pushing the tile pier to the side. It may possibly belong to the original wall structure, but, if so, it was used as a spoil.

Plaster samples from both the tile pier and the lava stones belong to the early type A.
