Arca

Description

A. Karivieri & R. Forsell

The arca foundation against the north wall of the atrium is built mostly of cruma and lava and some limestones above the mosaic floor, against the red dado with yellow and white dots. There are pieces of painted plaster (black and red) in the mortar of the foundation.

The mosaic floor seems to have been remade around the eastern part of the foundation where the black tesserae nearer to the foundation have darker colour than in the surrounding area.

The arca foundation has been built later than the mosaic floor was made, and later than the wall painting in the north wall. The construction seems to belong to one of the latest building phases in the house.

Preserved height 0.27 m. N-S 0.86 m. E-W 1.54 m.
