South Wall

Description

Thomas Staub

S wall: width 3.35 m, max. preserved height 2.70 m. For the closed doors, see room c, north wall. The later closed round window between these two rooms has on this side a diam. of 0.17 m, i.e. it becomes wider towards room e. On this side of the wall, the material used seems even more mixed than on its southern side: the incertum consists of mostly fist large to 0.15 x 0.15 m large pieces (in size) of Sarno stone, lava, cruma, brick, roof tiles, spoils of reddish mortar, pavements and plaster, all set into a course yellowish mortar. At the bottom, up to 0.20 m, the wall is covered by plaster.
