West Wall

Description

Renée Forsell

The wall is built mainly in op. quadratum with cut limestone blocks, flanking the door opening into the atrium on its S side. There is some op. incertum, consisting of limestone, along the corner towards the S. Nothing is left of the wall above the door opening.
Most of the wall is covered by mortar, plaster and plaster coating. There is one patch of plaster long the floor up to 0-0.18m that abuts to the floor. Another patch at the height of 0.44-0.90 is very fragile and likely to fall down. At the height of 1.05-1.35 a third plaster fragment is encircled by modern plaster. A fourth patch of plaster, also encircled by modern plaster is located at the height of 1.65-2.15. The finishing surface, once white of yellow, has cut marks evenly spread over the surface a sign of on-going redecoration.
